White Bean and Ham Soup

2 cans northern beans, rinsed & drained
2 medium carrots, diced
1 small onion, chopped
2 T. margarine
2 1/4 cup water
1 1/2 cup cubed, cooked ham
1/2 t. salt
1/4 t. pepper
1 bay leaf

Mash one can of beans, set aside.  In large pan, sauté carrots and onion in margarine until soft.  Stir in water, ham, seasonings, whole and mashed beans.  Cook over medium until heated through.
